At Obao, Thai food gets modern with a little help from Vietnam.

Food bloggers went nuts for Obao even before it opened, writing love letters to dishes like crispy pork belly skewers and pad see iew. Other standouts include spare ribs on sugar cane skewers, golden wings in sweet chili sauce, braised pork shank noodle soup, and a Laos beef salad that comes lettuceless, but jammed with tender flank steak and pineapple.

The lunch menu is a paired down version of what's on offer for dinner, but either meal will satisfy with unique and memorable versions of Viet-Thai combinations. Perhaps just as important, Obao is a beautiful restaurant, designed to capture Asian opulence. You'll see lots of foliage, lots of shimmering light, and lots of satisfied customers.

Not every cuisine update works, of course, but when you have skilled chefs behind the menu (as Obao does), you're bound to come away enlightened by your meal. Food this good deserves more than one try. No wonder Obao has so many devoted fans. http://www.inbundles.com/?did=14513 Mon, 14 May 2012 09:00:00 GMT InBundles Daily Deal RSS Feed 15.00 30.00 http://www.chompon.com/uploads/stores/9479.jpg Mon, 14 May 2012 09:00:00 GMT Mon, 21 May 2012 09:00:00 GMT OBAO NOODLES & BBQ - MIDTOWN
129 Yelpers give it 3.5 Stars, Menupagers give it 3.5 Stars, 3.5 Stars and 94% of Urbanspooners "Like It"!

"Love this place! Great mix of Thai, Vietnamese and Chinese dishes. My boyfriend and I end up going here almost every week. The place is much bigger than it appears from the outside, and while we're fans of the fake green grass lining the wall in the front and front corner booth, we usually choose to sit in the back dining room, which is cozier- they also have nice long benches for big groups to sit at." The menu reads Pan Asian / fusion, which is usually a bad sign. But boy was I wrong with the first impression! I ordered a turnip noodle dish - a play on a traditional Chinese tapas - and the flavors were amazing! If you like food that is "delicate" or "subtle," then forget about Obao. This place punches you in the face with flavors, and it hits all the right spots! I went back again and ordered other items from the menu, and it was no fluke! This place is consistently awesome. Big flavors, no pretense." Rich W., Yelp

"Absolutely delicious! This is the kind of place that is great for groups... because there is SO much on the menu that sounds amazing. To start we shared the crispy spring rolls, pork belly and Thai salad. For our main courses we got shrimp pad thai, shrimp clay pot and crispy fish. The flavors were authentic and the portions were perfect. The wait staff was friendly, gave great suggestions and allowed us to enjoy a leisurely meal. Obao is a new favorite and I can't wait to go back and try other items." I also enjoyed the two preparations of beef very much, and there was plenty of each. The whole thing was simply delicious."
